Tips for Navigating the New Bible Gateway Website

See the Bible Book List navigation feature on Bible GatewayWhile Bible Gateway’s website has a fresh new look, it retains the easy, free Bible search-and-read functionality you’ve come to expect and appreciate.

One new feature that users are enthusiastically calling out is the Bible Book List that drops down under the search bar when you click the down arrow. Each book of the Bible is listed in biblical order and when you select a book, a brief summary phrase for each of that book’s chapters appears in a side window, helping you to quickly narrow your selection of the specific Scripture passage you’re looking for but can’t quite remember its particular chapter and verse number.

Another feature is Bible Gateway’s responsive design that automatically conforms the website to the screen size of whatever device you’re using, allowing you to easily read on narrow to wide screens without having to scroll right or left.

One of our most popular functionalities is the ability to virtually create your own parallel Bible, lining next to each other a maximum of five Bible translations for the Scripture passages you want to read. Simply look up the passage you want to compare—for example, John 3:16—and click or tap the parallel icon in the upper left corner above the passage. This opens a second Bible window to the right of the passage you were reading. Select the Bible version you want from the drop-down list in the new Bible window.

As you read and search the Bible on Bible Gateway, be sure to take advantage of the study column on the right side of your screen. Clicking the “Intro” tab, you’ll find an introductory summary for each book of the Bible that includes the book’s theme, brief overview, the grouping section of the Bible where the book is found, it’s author, timeline, literary genre, the language in which it was originally written, and the audience to whom the author wrote the book. Clicking the “Study” tab will display more than 40 Bible study reference books that contain helpful scholarly notes written specifically for the Bible passage you’re reading to guide you in understanding that Scripture’s context and application. The third tab is for your own note-taking. Highlight a verse to start making notes.

If you haven’t already, we encourage you to create your own personal and custom free Bible Gateway account. It’s free (did we just say that?) and it gives you access to advanced Bible Gateway features, such as the ability to take and store notes as you read Scripture, highlight and bookmark Bible passages that are special for you, sync your notes across your multiple devices, and subscribe to any of our free, customizable Bible reading plans.

We hope you enjoy getting to know the new look of Bible Gateway. In case you have questions, you’ll want to check out our FAQ section.
