After The Lockman Foundation completed the NASB translation in 1971 using the formal equivalence philosophy that translates word-for-word as much as possible from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek languages, it was updated in 1977, 1995, and 2020. The purposes of the updates have been to sharpen accuracy, clarity, and readability, moving from a classic style of literary English to the current English style most comfortable and understandable for the 21st century while maintaining the word and sentence patterns of the biblical authors.
