Have we ever been shunned or ostracized? Ever been excluded because of
our accent, skin color, gender, poverty, religion, politics, caste or
family? Try to connect with that experience for a few minutes, try to
understand what it meant to be a leper in Jesus’ day. Try to observe
how Jesus treated this remarkable leper.
Are we the type of person who is fond of discriminating against
others? It is about time that we should be critical towards our own
actions because what we do to others will eventually be done unto us.
As the golden rule goes “Don’t do unto others what you do not want
others to do unto you.” Just think about the simplicity exemplified by
the life of Jesus. He chose to live in a plain environment than to
have a luxurious life. He chose to suffer from hardships and pain than
be the one causing it for others. Jesus wants us to be simple and
remain humble in everything that we do. We do not have the right to
judge others because of the way they look, act, or speak.
Let us always remember that each of us is unique in our own ways. Each
person created by God has strengths and weaknesses. We should learn to
accept and respect these qualities we possess and if possible, let our
strengths be used for the betterment of others especially the needy
and the poor just as Jesus did to the leper in his day.
