St. Nicholas of Tolentino was born in 1245 in Sant’Angelo, Italy, to a devout and charitable family. Named after St. Nicholas of Myra, he was deeply influenced by the faith of his parents, who had prayed fervently for a child. From an early age, Nicholas exhibited a strong inclination toward prayer and helping the poor.
At the age of 18, Nicholas joined the Augustinian order, dedicating his life to prayer, penance, and preaching. He became known for his deep devotion to the Eucharist and his gentle, compassionate nature. As a priest, Nicholas served in various capacities but spent most of his life in Tolentino, where he was known for his tireless work among the poor and sick. His life was marked by numerous miracles, both during his lifetime and after his death.
Nicholas had a particular devotion to the souls in Purgatory, often offering Masses and prayers for their release. He also performed many miracles, including healing the sick, multiplying food for the hungry, and comforting the sorrowful. He died on September 10, 1305, and was canonized in 1446.
