When we relay to God our petitions, do we honestly trust that He will
come through for us? Maybe, we’re a bit fearful of the answer we’ll
get. Maybe, it’s something unexpected, but it’s an answer nonetheless.
But, as our faith teaches us, Father really knows what’s best.
In general, we probably have no idea what we really want. In fact, we
may not be fully appreciating what we already have. Perhaps, we might
be getting too caught up in the asking for what we want, when it
possibly can be right there in front of us, but we are too distracted
or too busy to notice it. We might be getting too caught up with what
is not essential.
The important things in life cannot be computed in quantity, but more
in quality. How much time have we spent with the people who matter so
much to us: our families, our loved ones? How often have we given of
ourselves to charitable endeavors? How have we served God faithfully
in our church, in our workplace and in other areas of our lives?
In the end, maybe what we should ask is how we can better bring more
glory and honor to Our Lord. Everything else follows after that.
Because when everyone on earth realizes that we are here to look after
each other, we would have no want of anything. Our basic needs would
be tended to and we can busy ourselves in building this kingdom of
love that God asks of us. In that way, perhaps then, all of our
prayers would have truly been answered.
