Friday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Sacrifice equals suffering plus love. The pains we all undergo to care, to be kind, to be more understanding, has an accompanying toll. But no matter the cost, if the person we’re looking after is saved, and it becomes worth it.
Sadly, most married couples have forgotten the value of sacrifice. When they find themselves heading through rough waters, their first instinct is to jump ship.

Entering into a committed relationship will entail some dying to one’s self. Even if we feel tired, the kids need to be tutored. It is love that will fuel us. It’s difficult to earn a living, but we persist so that our families will have a safe place to sleep and have good food to eat. Sometimes, we’d rather be doing something else, but when someone we love needs help, we drop everything to make sure that they’ll be all right.

Love takes that much out of us and more. But, when we truly love, the sacrifices are part and parcel of this beautiful experience. We are committed to God and so is He to us. His ultimate sacrifice was Jesus, who died for our sake. May we always be inspired by this moving model of love.
